This page features our reviews of films and TV series. Reviews come from our members and relate to the feminism, gender or the portrayal of women. You can find a link to IMBD reviews of all the content featured here in the box to the right of the media players. This will contain information on relevant Trigger warnings (TW). 

 

Other feminist sites may have mentioned the Bechdel test. The movies/tv shows shown here need not all pass the Bechdel test as it's possible for some good films to fail due to techincal reasons.

 

A film passes the Bechdel test is it meets the following criteria:

 

1) Contains at least one named female characters.

2) Those characters talk to each other.

3) They talk about something other than a man.

 

Lots of films fail. If the word "female" was replaced with "male" in the critera barely the vast majority of films would pass. This highlights the culture of the bias towards men in movie storytelling where women are either ignored completely or used merely for the development of the male characters.
